Notice:

The University provides the following ways for degree students with no or only limited Chinese-language proficiency to waive the General Education language-literacy course “Chinese Critical Thinking and Expression”:

(1) Waiver through courses at the Chinese Language Center, with the student's department assisting with the application (see the attached form). Eligible applicants are:

1. International degree students.

2. Overseas Chinese and foreign degree students.

(2) Waiver after passing the intercollege elective General Education course “Reading the Chinese Treasure Island” (course number GEAI1083), offered by the Center for Fundamental Education, Si Wan College. Eligible applicants are:

1. International degree students.

2. Overseas Chinese and foreign degree students.

3. Students whose principal language of instruction during senior secondary education was not Chinese, including students in the International Baccalaureate (IB), self-taught students meeting equivalent-qualification requirements, and graduates of foreign schools or overseas senior high schools.

2. The course hours and grades for both types of courses must still meet the National Sun Yat-sen University Si Wan College Principles for Reviewing General Education Course Credit Waivers and the waiver procedure must be completed within the prescribed period.
